2nd October 2014. King Tuts, Glasgow. We were so buzzed to finally see one of our favourites, Marmozets, and boy did they deliver.
But also on that very fateful night, we were introduced to a certain band by the name of Allusondrugs. One half-hour set later, we were instantly made fans and even took the time to purchase their self-titled EP afterwards. It was at that moment, we knew we had discovered something special.
Fast forward to over a year later, Castleford’s resident quintet have at last presented us with a new record entitled Am I Weird? We had high hopes for this, and luckily it turned out to be exactly what we wanted it to be, and then some.
Off the bat, they fire into the title track, a fittingly quirky number with an addictive melody and unforgettable lyrics. Next, we have intoxicating, grimy riffs and catchy vocal hooks at the forefront of I Should Have Gone To Uni.
The guys then remaster an old classic in the form of Sunset Yellow, where smooth and mellow verses give way to a rocking chorus. They follow up with the fast and furious, drum-happy Magic College, before wrapping up with the similarly exciting Her Crown.
If you need evidence that Allusondrugs deserve to be ranked among the next big acts in British music, look no further. One hell of an entertaining EP – for sure, one of the best we’ve heard all year – that perfectly captures the band’s exhilarative brand of psychedelic grunge.
If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to hear them for yourselves, then what the heck are you waiting for? Throw your dough at them and get tucked into their tunes now!
