REVIEW | Excellent Cadaver (Self-Titled EP)

Hailing from Dundee, metal band Excellent Cadaver have made a significant impact in the Scottish scene since their debut in 2008. A well-received debut album, unforgettable live shows and claiming support slots with the likes of Trivium, Heart Of A Coward and others have helped build the reputation they hold today.

This brings us to the current day, where they look to create their next accolade in the form of a brand new self-titled EP.

The opener Dead Dreams sucks us in with forceful rhythms and memorable lyrics; in addition, the scream work is fantastic. Afterwards, Losing Streak brings us kinetic, off-the-wall drumming and a thrilling chorus.

Unchained showcases the guitars at their very best as they churn out electrifying riffs, whilst the vocals are stepped up a hell of a notch. The closing track Witness starts at a steady pace, but in not too long they go all out in the second half and charge towards a relentless boiling point, before slowly settling down into silence to bring the EP to a close.

Another great record from one of Dundee’s finest. Considering the consistently high-quality results they produce and their longevity, it’s clear these guys are doing something right, and if they continue down this path they’re sure to find success on a larger scale soon enough.
