REVIEW | Hopes Up High: We Were Just Kids

I enjoy my fair share of pop punk now and again, and Scotland certainly has a thriving scene when it comes to the genre, with many quality bands across the country, and today’s subject is no different: Hopes Up High, from Abroath, who just recently released their debut EP, We Were Just Kids.

It kicks off with By My Side, a bouncy, very upbeat tune with some great vocals and fantastic guitar work, followed up by Without You which features some top notch bass and drum work, as well as a brilliant chorus.

Next To Me is easily the highlight for me, an awesome, high-tempo song with a ridiculously catchy melody, memorable lyrics and another addictive chorus to boot. The record then takes it down a notch for Everything To Me, a nice little slow number, before wrapping up with the lively and highly energetic title track.

Overall, a really strong first effort from the band. These guys will be certainly one to watch, talent like this can’t be ignored.
